We feel blessed that David Blair custom built a home for us that completely fits our lifestyle. This was our third time building a home and our third builder. By far, David Blair Construction was the best choice of builders. The entire experience, from our initial meeting to follow-up after completion, was enjoyable. Building a home can be extremely stressful, but not with David Blair Construction. One of David’s greatest strengths is open communication. Through emails, texts, phone calls, and meetings, he never lost sight that it was our home and he included us in every detail. David was meticulous in making our dream a reality. He guided us through the tedious process of architectural review at Hammond’s Ferry, to be sure our home would be an asset to the community as well as the home we envisioned. David was instrumental in listening to our wants and needs in home design. His pricing was competitive, and he communicated with us every step of the way providing transparency throughout the home building process. Having never built a home “from scratch” before, we didn’t know what to expect. We got lots of “helpful” comments from friends like “I could never take the stress of that,” or “I hope your marriage survives the building process.” These folks couldn’t have been farther off the mark. Our experience in building with David Blair was great from start to finish.

We found David after falling in love with a friend’s home that David built. We spoke with some other David Blair homeowners and a few realtor friends, we found that all of them spoke highly of David for his honesty and integrity. We echo this sentiment.

Some highlights of our building process include:

• Getting David as our builder. Don’t wait until the last minute to do this. He won’t take on more homes than he can actively manage. He is not a “drive by” contractor, but is active on the build site every day.
• Working closely with David during the design and drawing of our home with Ray Goode. David was in contact with us almost every day as we worked through seven iterations of the plan. With his long building experience, David has seen folks make mistakes and have regrets. He goes way out the way to make sure this doesn’t happen to you; laying out options and talking you through the pros and cons of your choices. He frequently arranged “field trips” to other homes to see how other folks did it.
• Working through the budget. David is not the kind of builder that will just say “OK,” to your requests while paying no attention to the final bill. He is meticulous in keeping you on budget. We were warned that builders are famous for driving up the build cost through “change orders.” David tries to avoid this as much as possible. We also appreciated his policy of having us go directly to his vendors (cabinets, appliances, flooring, etc.) and pay them directly for any choices we made beyond the agreed upon allowances. This made it easy for us to track the actual cost of the home and know exactly where our money was going.
• Communications. You will not have to track David down. He is proactive in sending pictures of progress and giving frequent reports. When you do have a question, a text to David is answered promptly.
• Relationships. David and his wife Jill make a great team. We loved being able to use her design input.
• Closing. David doesn’t disappear or become hard to reach after the closing. He is just as prompt in dealing with questions or issues as he was during the build. One of the great things David does is give you a home “owner’s manual” after closing that has all of the paint colors, contractors, appliance manuals and other information specific to the house.

When Beth and I decided to build our forever home, we researched a few of the top tier local builders. We knew David and Jill from school functions and church, and knew he would be someone we could count on. We initially chose David Blair because we knew him personally to be a man of integrity.
We quickly learned through our first renovation project that David’s entire team were skilled craftsman in their areas of expertise: be it plumbing, electrical, carpentry and painting. The result from our first project was a room we have loved and enjoyed every day since its completion.

That made the decision for our next project a no brainer: David Blair Homes. Once again, David brought in just the right people to listen to our desires and needs and translate them into an affordable plan. During the construction phase I had absolute confidence with each and every subcontractor, and David did not bring anyone into my home that I was uncomfortable with being there. Each worker in my home treated me as the customer and worked hard to earn my trust. Throughout the entire project, David kept me informed as to what would be happening in my home, and how long it would take to be completed, and who to expect in my home to do the work. At no point was anyone ever late who was scheduled to be at my home. David also personally inspected the work of each subcontractor to ensure everything was done to his high standard.

When the unexpected death of my husband occurred after demolition began, David showed me unspeakable compassion, rearranging construction plans and schedules to give me much needed privacy. “Take the time that you need. Just let me know when you are ready to start back, and I will be glad to work with you.” His thoughtfulness was evident even in this, as he made every phone call and offered explanations to each contractor on my behalf. Inside the home he checked heating and cooling, and water heaters to assure my family’s comfort in the midst of a hold on the renovation in progress. It could not have been easy to work with a grieving widow, but David seemed to make my comfort and concerns his priority.

The finished result was jaw-dropping-happy-tears-in-the-eyes result that exceeded my expectations.

When my wife and I decided to build a new house, we conducted a rather intensive search for the right builder, price and other factors considered. The effort was worth it, as we ended up with an exceptional builder (David Blair Homes) and a great house. After living in the house for a year and realizing that the unusually hot summer and unpredictable storm events are becoming more common, we decided to build a carport. However, we wanted a custom, oversized carport that provided additional space, did not interfere with our view of the surrounding woods, and looked like it was part of the original house.

Based on our positive experience with the new house, we simply called David and that was the end of our builder reviews. We learned, while building the house, that David’s input and advice would have been valuable during the design phase so we included David in the design phase of the carport. Since he had built the house, he was already familiar with structural and architectural factors that proved helpful in working with the designer/planner.

We were correct in our thinking. David did an excellent job and the carport is well integrated with the overall structure and architecture of the main house. In addition to quality work, construction was completed in three weeks from start to finish.

When people know that you are building a home, most say they wouldn’t go through that agony again. Not so with David. He was most helpful each time decisions had to be made and provided sound recommendations. Each day was exciting to watch our home progress to our taking occupancy.

When we spoke with our financial advisor about who we selected to build our first new home, the first thing he said was, “the builder must be good if he made it through your selection criteria”. We initially considered approximately five builders and ultimately selected David Blair Homes. High construction quality, contractor/subcontractor reliability, exceptional integrity (several times David caught errors where we could have overpaid for an item), very competitive construction price, and quick to resolve issues to our satisfaction, was the mode of operation every day. David was often the first to catch subtle mistakes that we probably wouldn’t have noticed, yet he immediately brought them to our attention even though they sometimes cost him additional time and money.

David listened carefully to us and clearly understood our requirements and priorities. He reviewed our plans and identified plan errors and design flaws. He suggested areas where we could save money and still meet our objectives for quality and custom details and offered his wife’s (Jill) design and fixture selection assistance. David pro-actively addressed typical first time building concerns by implementing appropriate contractual procedures. He did this to assure us that we would not run into problems that customers often experience with other builders. We also made numerous changes/upgrades throughout construction as our vision became more focused. David was very flexible in accepting our change requests and frequently suggested changes of his own that often resulted in better design and saved money.

Looking back, the only mistake we made that cost us unnecessary time and money was not involving David early on in our house plans. We would suggest involving David early in the planning process in order to take advantage of his sage advice.

Thanks to both David and Jill, we truly had an interesting and enjoyable first home building experience.

We are very pleased with our new game room! The final product exceeded our expectations. The game room has beautiful hardwood floors, lots of windows, false beams on the ceiling, and stylish trim. We left the outside brick wall on the house as a wall to the game room and David blended it in well with the new construction. David was very meticulous from the start. We started with an architectural drawing and revised some features based on David’s recommendations. His detailed planning resulted in the completion of the game room on schedule. He is a “hands on” builder and we saw that from the start. He made numerous trips to our house during the planning phase and was present essentially every day of construction. His crews showed up on schedule. All did very good work. What we really liked as a customer is that he kept work going on most days – daily progress made it a very enjoyable project.

I am pleased to be able to recommend whole-heartily any kind of building project one may pursue with contractor David Blair. We had a rather small task, the closing in with a porch that was attached to the front of our cottage. By a referral, we contacted David. It had to be done exactly right to fit in with the rest of the front of the house. It was such a small job that he is use to, I didn’t know if he would be interested. I think, however, the different kind of job we were asking for he looked upon it as a challenge. In the project where we live, it was absolutely necessary that we get association approval. The association is quite strict about these matters. David submitted our plans, after we discussed in detail what we wanted, and it went flying thru association approval. After that, things went better than I expected. We were very pleased with the work and workers David employed. IN fact, David showed up personally just about every time a new job was done and, even , sometimes for other good reasons. My suggestion is, if you have any kind of building project in mind, you better contact David first. It would be a mistake not too. I might add, since I have had some work done on my place last year, I feel that David’s cost was certainly in line, i.e. competitive.
